Vienna: a prominent centre for diplomatic institutions. There are more embassies, consulates and other diplomatic and international institutions in Vienna than in practically any other city in the world. Historically this is attributed to the fact that Vienna was always regarded as the “Gateway to the East” and was a hub of great importance during the period in which the “Iron Curtain” existed. Pfeiffer, Klestil & Associates was established in order to use this network and this spectrum of diplomatic facilities and institutions for its work. Both the scope and nature of international security agenda have evolved significantly in recent years. These changes have serious implications for global issues and how diplomatic services should be reconfigured to tackle them.
